The Problem With the Popularity of Gambling

However, also because of its popularity, many have gone astray due to gambling. It is said that America's gambling industry has been plagued by a lot of problem gamblers. All in all, statistics show that three percent of adults who participate in gambling are problem gamblers.
If you think that adults are the only ones affected by this gambling problem, think again. Studies say that young adults have thrice the chances of turning out to be problem gamblers than the adults. Certainly, the numbers are disturbing.
How do you spot a problem gambler? It is believed that a person afflicted with problem gambling undergoes the Custer three phase model. In this model made by Robert L Custer, there are three stages that a problem gambler undergoes. The first one is the winning stage. It is very delightful to any gambling player to win, isn't it? That is also why a gambling player would be more interested in gambling, because he or she knows that he can win. So, he or she plays more, but eventually he loses, and may even suffer a losing streak. This leads him to the losing stage. The losing stage in problem gambling can be seen in players who chase their losses, who brags about their past wins (because that's all they have) and those who need to borrow money from others to be able to participate in gambling. The last stage is the desperation stage. The gambler in this problem gambling stage is now in a deep gambling debt and may resort to unlawful ways to pay their debts.
